Well Hello and Happy Friday!!  I have been battling bronchitis this week.  UGH!  (cough, cough) Today is the first day I have felt like doing anything.  Pretty sad when you don’t even feel like coloring. 😦   But today I was able to get back to this fun little card I’d been making and glue everything together.  I am rather pleased with it.  Just don’t look to closely at the cutting. Patient I am not. 🙂

The woodland creatures are from Simply B Stamps.  I thought this card would be perfect for both SimplyB’s third anniversary and The Paper Shelter’s 100th blog challenge.  Congratulations to both!

CelebrationIt is an easel card with a couple of extra pieces.  I used this tutorial from Pam Sparks at Expressions with Heart. It is found here on YouTube.  You should check her out.

Here is the view from the side:celebrate side viewPaper: Let’s fly away, Rachel Harper 2012 and three different green card stock pieces from my stash.

Hope you all have a fantastic weekend and if you get the chance check out the special challenge at The Paper Shelter.  They are giving away 5, yep you heard me right, 5 twenty dollar give certificates to their store to celebrate it being their 100th challenge.  So read all about that here.  Now that is a reason to celebrate.

Also If you are looking for a fun loving bunch of gals to pick on, ask questions or simply get inspiration from, check out Simply B’s facebook page here. This is a very active site with lots of helpful info, fun challenges and swaps.  There really is something for everyone.  And if we get nine more members there will be a freebie.  And who doesn’t like a free digi stamp. Whoop Whoop.

Ok I have blathered enough…

Thanks for sticking with me today, must be the cold meds. (snort)

Puzzling Family

Hey Gang,

I want to start today with a photo of the gorgeous sunrise I was greeted with on my way to work today.  The sun was so red and HUGE.  This picture really doesn’t do it justice. But WOW huh? ( I did absolutely no photoshopping, this is straight from the camera.)

The other little ditty I have for you is a project I started a while back.  I was feeling like my paper craft friends thought I had abandoned them, so I decided to finish it.

Here’s how to make one of your own.

Use a children’s 25 piece puzzle that you can find at any dollar store.

Flip it over.  I used the back as my canvas because I am lazy and would have had to gesso the front due to the slickness and pattern.

Number each piece.  Trust me, you will thank me for this advice later when the pieces get mixed up.

Pick out paper to use as your background. I used patterned paper from Echo Park- A walk in the park.   You could use anything though, even fabric.

You will trace the pieces on paper and cut them out.  Two helpful tips.  1. You need to make sure that you have the piece on the paper the right way.  Meaning the paper has two sides to it and so does the puzzle piece. So you need to make sure that the brown side of the puzzle piece (the side the paper will be glued on to) is facing down and the paper side you want to show is also facing down.  This way when you trace your lines and cut them out they will not show and the pattern that you like will be correct.  *ask me how I know this.  Tip 2.  Cut your piece with a little allowance on all sides.  If you cut your piece too close,  the brown will show and you will get really mad and stomp your feet. (well at least that is what I did, maybe you have better self control.) Think of the extra as cookies- its always better to have more cookies, right?

Print out your family photos using a thumbprint layout or custom size to about 1 inch by 1.5 inches. Unless you have fewer photos and then you may want to go with a bigger size.

Fiddle with how you like the photos with the papers etc.

Glue the papers onto the pieces.  I used Tombow mono multi, in the cool triangle bottle, but you can use what ever glue you prefer.  After they have dried,  take a nail file- you know the coarse ones for acrylic nails- and file the paper off the edges of the piece.  This creates a nice clean edge.  I chose to darken the edges of each piece with Tim Holtz walnut brown ink, using a sponge dauber.  I felt that this added a unity to all the pieces tying them all together.

I then put the puzzle back together and played with the details. Originally I was going to have one person for each piece.  But then I found the center sentiment “it doesn’t matter where you go, it’s whose beside you that counts”and decided to put the couples closer together and to leave room by the singles so that I can add to it as they marry. I mounted each photo on brown card stock, once again to tie them all together.

I chose three metal hearts to also add unity to the piece. I added three butterflies I cut out using a sizzix die and patterned paper.  I added four rhinestone gems because I was feeling frisky.

I put my mom and her brothers and sisters on thick pop dots, their five kids on slightly less raised dots and their spouses and kids flat.  I felt the the depth added to the overall look of the piece. This photo better shows what I am talking about.

I then glued the entire thing to a piece of card stock.

Overall I am very pleased with the results.  I love that there is so much room for exploration.  Go wild and make one too.  If you do please share your results with me.

We’re back with some fun little beads

Well Helllloooo again my litlle bloggy friends.  I have missed you.  Jazz and I have been super busy with polymer clay.  Everyday I mean to sit down and blog but I start messing with the clay and next thing you know it’s bedtime.

But over the next couple of days I do have some fun things to show you.

Today I am going to post a few fun beads that I made using scrap clay and my extruder. These are called Jupiter bead and you use scrap clay and dry scrap clay to make them.  My clay ended up not being very dried out so I didn’t quite get the look I was going for, (if you see the parts that have a ragged type of look to it, dry clay is creating that and I hoped for a little more of it) but I think that they are fun anyhow.

These three were done the same way but with dried pearl clay.  They are prettier in person, I promise!

Tomorrow I will post a cane I build using Jana Roberts-Benzon’s arabesque caning technique.  She is really amazing. Click on her name and check out her AWESOME stuff.  I just took a  laser cut workshop from her and will post the pendant I made later in the week.  As well as some of her fabulous stuff for some yummy eye candy!

That’s it for today.  Jazzy says he hopes you have a two bone weekend!!

Hey ya’ll, Jazzy here.

Momma has bribed me with doggie delights if I post this  polymer clay egg for her.  She is working so I held out for three treats before I gave in.

She  used Bettina Welker’s tutorial to make the sheet of clay used to cover this egg.  She doesn’t like it as  much as Bettina’s bracelet, but I think it turned out kinda fun.

Please click on the link above for a full tutorial so that you can make your own pixelated cane.

Well I am off to collect my reward.  Ooh I hope it’s the chicken strips….

Good Morning!

I thought you might like to see what I did with my kaleidoscope cane from yesterdays post.  I used the slices to cover an egg.  Yep, it’s a real egg.  I blew out the egg, dried it and covered it in clay and baked it.  Please don’t look to close as I am still learning/floundering to figure out how to line everything up. Anyway, here it is:

Thank you for looking.

Well HELLO!!!    Happy Friday!!!!!  WOO HOO!

Today I am posting the kaleidoscope canes that I made using a tutorial by my good friend Laura Schiller.  She is a fabulous egg artist as well as polymer clay artist and overall swell gal.  She has been doing polymer clay creations as well as egg art for many years.  She has been featured many times in the  polymer clay magazines.  AND in 2009 her egg was actually selected to be hung on the White House Christmas tree. Here it is Which you can and should check out here.  But she recently released a tutorial on how to make a kaleidoscope cane and I used it to make these:

I had tons of fun making these.  If you are interested in making kaleidoscope canes with polymer clay I highly recommend these.  They are only $10.00!! You can find them on her blog Lauraseggs.com.

Thanks for poppin’ in.  I am off to make more polymer clay schtuff!

Welcome to Jazzydoodle Designs

I started this blog because my spoiled little companion got tired of me waking her from her nap to look at what I created. And frankly, her response of “not as cute as I am…can I have a treat?” was not very helpful nor gratifying.

I hope you find some enjoyment, knowledge or just plain relief from your boredom while looking.

So now I am a blogger with a dogger.
