In Episode 9 we discuss using distress ink in our adult coloring books. I give an overview of distress ink, the tools to use, and different techniques to use in our Adult coloring books. I also have a timelapse of a matchstick mouse page using nothing but distress ink. Distress ink is a fast and easy way to lay a base coat of color onto your coloring book page. Give it a try! Using Pastels of all types in our coloring books

Are you looking for ways to add backgrounds or even just a base layer of color to make your coloring adventures move along quickly and painlessly. If so this may be the video for you.

In this video I use pan, oil and soft pastels in adult coloring books. If done properly you will not even need a sealant. It is always nice to have another tool in the tool box. Pastels are cheap and easy to use! Making them perfect for large backgrounds or for that first layer of color.

Episode 7 How to Shade and Highlight and image in Adult Coloring Books

Use my light source tool and shading is made easy in adult coloring books. I show you how to make the tool, how to use the tool for easy shading in adult coloring books. I cover alternate shading colors, and we will color two projects using the tool and I talk you through, step by step to show you where to do your shading and highlighting.

I hope to see you there. Click on the link below to go to my Youtube channel and make your own light source tool.

Episode 7- Light Source tool and how to shade

On a personal note, we headed over to last Thursday to Pueblo Reservoir for some much needed R and R. The weather was gorgeous and much fun was had by all.

Ellie was all set in her shark life vest for her first boat outing. She did very well. She only fell in twice. Once on the maiden voyage when she tried to jump to shore to soon and once defending us from a very scary floating log. LOL She did well in the water, though we scooped her out quickly as it is still too cold for swimming.

Here she is at home completely tuckered out. So much that we put her bunny in her paws and she didn’t even move.

And here are my favorite two boys. (Don’t tell my kids I said that) They are getting so big. Jackson is so good to his brother Macallan. I can’t wait to see them again!

I hope you are all doing well and enjoying the warmer weather.

Can you use watercolor pencils in coloring books? What about on Amazon Paper?

The answer is YES! I use 3 dollar watercolor pencils in Creative Haven Country Gardens Coloring book.

In this episode of Wind/Wine down Wednesday, I explore watercolor pencils in adult coloring books. The various types of watercolor pencils, different methods to use them, how to blend them and of course how to use them in our adult coloring books- Yup, even the ones with Amazon paper. I do a project at the end with dollar store watercolor pencils in Country Gardens by Creative Haven. With no sealant and no bleed through.

There are only 24 pencils and they are not named or numbered so I have not listed them.

I also colored this cutie in Matchstick Mouse Floral coloring book. I use Albrecht Durer colored pencils in this one.

  • Pine Green
  • Phthalo Green
  • Leaf Green
  • May Green
  • Grass Green
  • Light Green
  • Dark Cadmium Orange
  • Light Cadmium Red
  • Cadmium Orange
  • Light Yellow Ochre
  • Light Chrome Yellow
  • Cream
  • White
  • Brown Ochre
  • Bistre
  • Van Dyke Brown
  • Burnt Sienna
  • Burnt Umber
  • Dark Sepia
  • Light Cobalt Turquoise
  • Light Phthalo Blue
  • Phthalo Blue
  • Ivory
  • Beige Red
  • Warm Grey 2

I am enjoying the ease of using these pencils. They help you lay down color quickly and then can use the pencils dry to add details.

Episode 4- Neo Color 1 and 2

Should you use Neo Colors in Adult Coloring Books?

I discuss Neo Color 1 vs Neo Color 2, pricing and characteristics and how to apply them. I do tests on opacity, blending, how they work with colored pencils, and how they work if the paper is sealed. I also look at how it affects the paper both with and without a primer. I show how to use these with other media to protect the paper without using a primer/sealant. I show a completed project as well at the end.

Here is the image I colored with Neo Color 2 only. (well a bit of paint pen for the highlights) I really enjoy neo color 2’s. In the video I show how I have had my neo color 2s for years (like over 10) and have used less than 1/2 inch of the crayon. So while they are pricy. They will last you a very long time.

They are also a very fast medium to work with.

Here is the link to the YouTube video.

Welcome to Jazzydoodle Designs

I started this blog because my spoiled little companion got tired of me waking her from her nap to look at what I created. And frankly, her response of “not as cute as I am…can I have a treat?” was not very helpful nor gratifying.

I hope you find some enjoyment, knowledge or just plain relief from your boredom while looking.

So now I am a blogger with a dogger.
